March 1 is the beginning of Women's History Month, a month that our government will no longer celebrate. "It's racists against men," they proclaim. If men didn't try to hide the accomplishments of women, we wouldn't need Women's History Month. That is the point. Women's legacies have often been overshadowed and, in many cases, taken credit by the men around them. School History only mentions a handful of women, Rosa Parks and Anne Frank, to name two. School English covers a handful of women writers, Anne Frank again being among them. I sure didn't learn about Ada Lovelace, Marie Curie, or Katherine Johnson in my school's History, Science, or Math classes. What I can do, though, is rattle off a bunch of male names I learned in school.
This is why Women's History Month, which initially started as a week, was established. It allows these amazing women to be seen and gives them the credit they deserve for shaping our country. Instead, this country is denying their recognition and working diligently to remove the rights of women today. Women have fought for centuries to be seen as equal to men, even when, in some cases, they are superior. If you want to remove the need for a Women's History Month, then treat women as you do men. Treat them as equals. It's as simple as that. For Women's History Month, not only will I post my opinions on some of the most talked about issues for women, but I will also post the accomplishments of 100 women who changed the world. I will use the 100 Women That Changed the World Card Deck to guide me through the women and their accomplishments. As far as I am concerned, diversity is what makes America great. Welcome to HopefullyMAD. Here, I share my thoughts and opinions on topics that are important to me.
Why did I choose the name HopefullyMAD? Right now, I am MAD at the world and its treatment of human beings. Nobody should be made to feel less than. But I am also Hopeful. Without hope, what is there to fight for? I fight because of my hope for a better world. Why not MADhopeful? Here's why; because I hope that you are MAD too. I hope that you are so MAD that you join me and others in this fight for our rights back. Be hopeful. Be MAD. Be HopefullyMAD. Categories
