What's going on right now with ICE and immigrants is appalling. And I say immigrants as a whole because we already know that it's not just the criminals or undocumented that are getting snatched. And I will even take it one step further and say the "bad" kind of immigrants because we also already know that the only immigrants getting grabbed are the ones that the administration considers an enemy. This is history repeating itself. It's wrong, it's inhumane, and it's unconstiutional. The treatment of immigrants, especially undocumented, has always been bad, but with this administration and the power that ICE now feels, treatment has gotten worse. Immigrants are being hurdled like cattle and being treated like animals instead of the human beings they are, all under the guise of "getting rid of the criminals" and the pretense of "making America great." Look at what's happening to men who the administration said were "Venezuelan Gang Members," and I put this in quotes because no hearings or trials or due process of any kind have proven that these men are gang members. They were simply pointed at and sent away, against a court order I will add, and are now being forced into slave labor by the El Salvador prison system. It won't stop with just non-citizen immigrants, either. Denaturalization is next. They are going to deem a particular type of citizen-immigrant criminal and thereby revoke their citizenship so they can deport them. And once that happens, they will then target natural-born citizens, though this is already happening to Native Americans. I am a Puerto Rican woman. I was born in Chicago, my mother was born in Brooklyn, and my father and both sets of grandparents were born in Puerto Rico. The U.S. acquired Puerto Rico in 1898 due to the Spanish-American war. In 1917, the U.S. Congress passed the Jones Act, which granted Puerto Ricans U.S. citizenship. My fear is that this administration will deem it "necessary" to reverse that act, thereby making my grandparents and father immigrants. And since they don't believe in birthright citizenship, that would make me and my sister (and quite franking my entire extended family) immigrants. That is what keeps me up at night. We already know that citizens are getting grabbed without the ability to prove citizenship, and it's taking hours for them to finally get released. Sooner or later, they won't be. They will be sent to a concentration camp. WAKE UP! It is only a matter of time. All Immigrants are Human and should be treated as such. Further proof of this administration's behavior towards human beings they don't want here in the U.S. Comments are closed.

Welcome to HopefullyMAD. Here, I share my thoughts and opinions on topics that are important to me.
Why did I choose the name HopefullyMAD? Right now, I am MAD at the world and its treatment of human beings. Nobody should be made to feel less than. But I am also Hopeful. Without hope, what is there to fight for? I fight because of my hope for a better world. Why not MADhopeful? Here's why; because I hope that you are MAD too. I hope that you are so MAD that you join me and others in this fight for our rights back. Be hopeful. Be MAD. Be HopefullyMAD. Categories
