Mary Anning

Academic

A leading figure in the discovery of dinosaur bones and the thinking of our dinosaurs roamed the earth. Was not given credit at the time, but has since been listed as one of the most important female British scientists.

Marie Marvingt

Mountaineer
Picture
Took part in riding, swimming, cycling, and fencing. Set records as a balloonist and aviator. Was the first woman to climb the highest peaks of the French Alps. During WWII, was the first female to become a combat pilot.

Yaa Asantewaa

Royal
Picture
Queen Mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empire. Known to be a woman of the people through her involvement in politics and human rights. Was a strong woman who led the fight against British colonialism in the 1900s.

Clara Schumann

Composer
Picture
A keen musician who plays the piano and composes music. Thought to be one of the most important pianists of the era. Had a long career performing in concerts spanning over 60 years. Printed on the 100 Deutsche Mark.

Lise Meitner

Academic
Picture
A leading figure in the field of physics and aided in discovering nuclear fission and protactinium. The first woman from the University of Vienna to receive a doctorate in the field and only the second woman in the world to do so. Won a lot of awards and named the chemical element meitnerium.
