Alice Milliat

Activist

At the forefront of getting women accepted into the Olympic Games. Campaigned, and was successful, for women to be involved in a wider range of sports at the Games.

Mary Seacole

Nurse and Businesswoman
Picture
In the Crimean War, set up a restaurant and barber shop for soldiers.  Used the money to care for wounded soldiers and help them back to full health. Described as a confident, skilled woman.

Maya Angelou

Writer
Picture
A highly creative woman, who published multiple books, poems, plays as well as films and TV shows. Won a great many of awards for her work. Was active in the Civil Rights movements.

Shirley Chisholm

Politician
Picture
The first elected black woman in the US Congress. Served 7 terms from 1969-1983 helping and driving awareness for the poor. Became leader of the Democratic Party and ran for president.

Hypatia

Academic
Picture
Is well regarded as one of the most important and influential academics of her time.  Taught math, philosophy, astronomy, and was as counsellor and mentor to others. Considered to be the first famous female mathematician to be recorded in history.

    ​Why did I choose the name HopefullyMAD? Right now, I am MAD at the world and its treatment of human beings. Nobody should be made to feel less than. But I am also Hopeful. Without hope, what is there to fight for? I fight because of my hope for a better world.

    Why not MADhopeful? Here's why; because I hope that you are MAD too. I hope that you are so MAD that you join me and others in this fight for our rights back. Be hopeful. Be MAD. Be HopefullyMAD.
