At this point, you've probably heard this from Megyn Kelly:

This, coming from anyone, is vile, but coming from a woman, one who was sexually harassed herself, is reprehensible. These are young girls we are talking about here, girls who were not much older than Megyn's daughter is right now. What kind of lesson is she teaching her daughter? As long as she is "barely legal" at 15, it's okay for grown men to harass, rape, and traffic her.

Let's set the record straight: Barely legal refers to the period when a child has just turned into an adult, which in the US is 18. It does NOT mean a child reaching the age of adulthood (which still wouldn't be 15). It doesn't matter if the child is 5, 8, 15, or 17. Under the law, a child under the age of 18 cannot legally consent to sexual acts with an adult, and therefore, it is illegal, as an adult, to perform sexual acts with them.

If I break down Megyn's comments, here's what I see:

1. ​Someone who is supporting a pedophile, but who doesn't want to take responsibility for supporting a pedophile. Otherwise, why use the guise of "someone I know" to state these "facts"?
2. Barely legal is a term men gave girls who finally reach the age of 18. It is soaked in misogyny. There is a reason why there is a whole porn sub-genre called Barely Legal. This tells me that Megyn's "someone I know" is a man whose "close to the case" status should probably be looked into.
3. "Would look legal to a passer-by." In other words, admitting that the 15-year-old is actually not legal, but didn't want to get into trouble, so needed her to look legal (meaning 18) to the public.
4. The only difference between a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old in the eyes of the law is 10 years. Otherwise, they are treated the same in child sex cases.

​Megyn and the woman she was talking with on her podcast should be ashamed of themselves for perpetuating a male idea of teenage girls being "barely legal" and therefore can be taken advantage of. 

What happened to this country? When did it become acceptable to publicly support,  make excuses for, and defend pedophiles? "A child is defined by when they hit puberty", like what?! I'm sorry, but a child is defined as not being an adult, which in the US is legally defined as being 18 years old. A 15-year-old can't even drive at night or without a licensed adult in most states. Additionally, a licensed adult is defined as one who is at least 18 years old.

Let's be clear here: this is a fight for adult men to be able to control and groom young women. If an adult woman had sex with a 15-year-old boy, she would be called a pedophile. There are literally child bride laws in some states that allow men to marry teenagers. Like, come on. This is not about all children. This is about girls. 

What I don't understand is: Clinton gets a blow job from a consenting 22-year-old adult, and the House GOP impeaches him the moment he's exposed. Trump has been all over the news about his involvement with Epstein and underage girls since he got into office, and there isn't even talk from the House GOP about impeachment.

I was born in Chicago. My father's side of the family is from Chicago. Some of them still live in Chicago. We are all Puerto Rican.

I am horrified about the unlawful apartment raid that occurred in Chicago two days ago. There was no probable cause, no warrant, and no reason for them to drag children out of their homes (some without clothes on) other than that they could. I only hope the city of Chicago and the residents of the apartment building sue. As far as I am concerned, that is child endangerment, abuse, harassment, mixed in with child pornography. If any other person had walked out of the building with a naked child, they would have been arrested in minutes. 

The fact is, not only does this regime encourage ICE to be cruel, but the Supreme Court has basically given them permission to do so. By saying they can racially profile people, SCOTUS has allowed them to see buildings like the one in Chicago and say "that's a building in a poor section of Chicago. Spanish people must live there." Because, of course, all Spanish people are poor and all Spanish people are immigrants. 

I think what makes this even worse is that some of my family members (those still living in Chicago and those not) voted for 47, simply because they are too religious to support a woman's right to have an abortion. They allowed this regime to target them because they were willing to force their religious beliefs on all women. What's happening to Spanish people all over the country is partly their fault. And they are Puerto Rican. It's that mindset of "It can't happen to me." I love my family, but I almost wish it did happen to them in the hopes it will wake them the fuck up.

This country is no longer the America our Founding Fathers fought for. They must be rolling in their graves right now. I am not a fan of zombies. In fact, my favorite phrase is "I don't do zombies." However, I would be okay with zombie Founding Fathers crawling out of their graves to fight this regime for America. I mean, somebody has to, and some of our Democratic leaders are lacking in that regard.​

As a Puerto Rican woman, the GOP passing the most heinous bill to date scares the shit out of me. There are numerous issues with this bill, but for the purpose of this post, I will focus on the massive budget increase that ICE will receive as a result of this bill being signed into law. 

I hope we are all ready for the ethnic cleansing that is about to happen.

Here's a quick breakdown of what ICE will receive:

• $45 billion to expand U.S. detention capacity. Meaning more concentration camps will be built. There is already one down in Florida that saw its first arrivals today. There will be more.
• $29 billion to expand ICE activities. Meaning they can hire people with absolutely no experience or training, to grab anyone who looks Spanish off the streets and disappear them.
• $3.3 billion to hire new immigration judges and related staff to prosecute and advance immigration cases. Meaning hire individuals who are more in line with the regime's mindset, so they can throw Spanish people out of the country faster.

And let's be real here; they are not just talking about the criminals. They are not just talking about the undocumented. They are referring to EVERY Spanish person in the US, including legal residents, visa or green card holders, naturalized citizens, and U.S.-born citizens. Just this week, the regime announced plans to prioritize cases to revoke citizenship. Soon they will have the means and man-power to do so as well as a court that will allow them.

​I can't tell you how much this scares me. Every time I leave my house alone, I wonder if I'll make it back. I think about what my husband would do if I didn't return home. I think about what I would do if I were sent to a Latin country I don't belong to. I worry that my real ID, or birth certificate, or passport will be deemed fake and tossed out. What do I do then? I am no stranger to being a target, I am a Latina woman after all, but this is a whole other level that is not easily fought. This is a whole other level that could get me killed.

It's no wonder I need a Manta sound sleep mask to help me fall asleep.

And I don't blame them. Puerto Rico has never been treated well by the Trump Regime. During his first term, Hurricane Maria hit the island hard, and instead of providing real and lasting help, Trump went to the island and threw paper towels into the crowd. Now, to be fair, this regime doesn't care about anyone. Trump has already denied FEMA help to red states and is poised to remove FEMA altogether after this year's hurricane season. What makes Puerto Rico's case to leave the US even stronger is the current treatment of Spanish people, including Puerto Ricans, at the hands of this regime's DHS and ICE.

...and I am all for Puerto Rico getting the FUCK out. Especially now with the ruling by SCOTUS that puts birthright citizenship up in the air, Puerto Ricans are just one EO away from having their citizenships removed, putting every Puerto Rican born in the states at risk.

Even when (or if) this regime leaves power, the GOP will never treat Puerto Rico well, and as long as they stay on the path they're on, I say to Puerto Rico: GET OUT! My only request is that they wait until any Puerto Rican-born person living in the states can get out safely. If they separate before then, Puerto Ricans will be deemed non-citizens and become even more of a target. 

On the plus side, if they accomplish this, I will have dual citizenship and can use that to leave the US myself, and so could the rest of my family.

Early last month, I wrote a blog about the Regine's decision to withhold funds for Title X family planning programs, which include Planned Parenthood. I listed the ways this will affect everyday citizens. Yesterday, SCOTUS took it one step further and said that any state can block Medicaid money for health care at Planned Parenthood. This means states can block ANY service provided by Planned Parenthood, not just abortion. So I'm back, repeating what I said before: 

Planned Parenthood is more than Abortion!

In light of this, I will reiterate the suffering that people will experience as a result of this decision. I have also included a YouTube clip with an interview discussing this decision and what it means.

Cancer will go undetected.
Planned Parenthood offers cancer screenings to detect cancer early and facilitate timely treatment. Without these screenings, cancer can spread throughout the body in an incurable state, costing lives that could have otherwise been saved. 

Women will lose their babies.
Planned Parenthood offers pregnancy testing and planning, and prenatal care. Without this support, women will either lose out on the chance of conceiving or miscarry due to improper care. Then, most likely, they will be arrested due to the miscarriage laws being passed.

​STDs will go untreated, including HIV.
Planned Parenthood offers STD testing and treatment as well as HIV services. Without these services, people will die sooner because they can't get or afford treatment.

People won't get the mental help they need.
Planned Parenthood offers mental health services so people can live their best lives.  This includes support for anxiety, depression, unhealthy relationships, and substance use. Without this support,  people won't learn how to cope with their disabilities and develop ways to work through them to live a happier life.

This past Saturday was the NO KINGS protests. Over 2000 protests in the US (with more in other countries) and 13 million people voiced their opposition. I did not attend. As mentioned, my anxiety would not have done well with the crowd sizes. But, in support, I wore my "Cero Odio en mi Estado" (No Hate in My State) t-shirt, and my husband wore his "Hate Is Not An American Value" t-shirt.

This protest was to oppose the military parade that the regime held on the president's birthday. It was to remind all that the United States does not have a king and doesn't want one.

Our Founding Fathers fought to abolish the English monarchy. They specifically wanted a country that was "for the people by the people." It's why we celebrate July 4th, our independence from a king. The so-called patriots, who are the first to hold BBQs in red, white, and blue, have seemingly forgotten what the day means. It's not just a celebration of the US; it's a celebration of the separation of the US from a king, a celebration of our fight to remove a king from power. And yet, this same group has no problem with the current president pronouncing himself king. Thankfully, the rest of us say NO.

The result of these protests is precisely what we needed. It's said that once 3.5% of the population stands up, change begins to happen: politicians start fighting back, news outlets begin telling more opposition stories, and voting patterns shift. We hit that 3.5% with these protests. Now, this doesn't mean our job is done. We must continue to show up, protest after protest, until genuine change within the government occurs. 

But No Kings Day was a monumental start.

Last week, I purchased three copies of my birth certificate. I am a Puerto Rican woman born in Chicago with a Real ID. But that doesn't matter to this regime. To this regime, I am the enemy. I am Spanish (and look it), and therefore don't belong. I purchased my birth certificate solely to prove that I am a citizen. I want to make sure that when I am inevitably stopped (or more likely taken) by ICE, I can prove citizenship. It's Certificates of Freedom all over again.

A couple of months ago, I was having dinner with a friend. In two of my 4 circles of friends, I am the only person of color. My 3rd circle has another Spanish woman. My 4th circle has more diversity, encompassing not only people of color but also individuals from the LGBTQ+ community. This particular friend (and the friends within this circle) is white. Her husband, stepchild, and family are white. Therefore, she doesn't truly understand what I go through as a POC, and the conversation we had over dinner was further proof of that.

Me: I got pepper spray to help fight against snatchings.

Her: Don't pepper-spray ICE, you can get into trouble for that.

Me: That is making the assumption that they are ICE. They're not showing ID, wearing plain clothes, driving unmarked cars, and wearing masks. It could be a kidnapper for all I know. I need to protect myself.

Her: Don't pepper-spray. You have a Real ID. Show them that.

Me: Most of the time, they're not even asking for ID. Even when you say you're a citizen, they either don't check or think you are lying (RE: this article).

Her: But you have a Real ID. That should be enough. 

Me: It's not. I am a target, and I need to be prepared for that.

Her: Then carry your birth certificate.

Me: First, I shouldn't have to. Second, most of the time, they're not even asking for ID. Citizens have been detained for weeks or deported cause they don't verify or care. I'm at risk.

Her: But you have a Real ID. You should be fine.

​And that was the end. I didn't want to go around in another circle. The fact is, she doesn't get it and she never will. 

Just last week, Miller and Noem told ICE to supercharge immigrant arrests (RE: this article). ICE is now required to arrest 3,000 people a day. They won't be able to meet those numbers if they're checking IDs. They won't be able to meet those numbers if they're checking if someone has a birth certificate on them.

​They are going to snatch, arrest, and MAYBE see that someone is a citizen after the fact. And I say maybe, cause there is no due process happening. It's not like I can prove citizenship in court. I just have to pray that someone decides to go through my purse to find my proof. That is all I can do, is prepare and protect myself as best I can. I can also ensure that my husband knows what to do if the situation arises.

​And my white friends will never understand.

As I've mentioned, Musicals are my escape. Right now, I am binge-watching Glee. There are some issues with Glee from a Feminist Eye perspective. Two cliché teen pregnancy plots, one that leads to adoption and the other simply a pregnancy scare. The slutty boys (and let's face it, if they were female characters they would be called sluts) who slept with the girls only to have one punishment for being slutty, get the girls pregnant or almost pregnant and perhaps losing the girl. Which, in most cases, doesn't really harm the boys. It's the girls who become outcasts, harassed, called sluts, etc. As if girls are responsible for getting themselves pregnant by immaculate conception. 

Then there is the bully, Coach Sue, whose punishment fluctuates throughout the show but ultimately ends on a high note. She becomes the principal only by planting incriminating items to oust the current principal. And then, in the "5-years-later" plot, is the Vice President? How does that show that bullies are the bad ones?

However, two moments stand out to me the most. This is because of a double standard. When a female and male character are put into similar situations, the reaction and dialogue differ, and, as is common, it favors the man. Let's break down the situations.

Season 4, Episode 12: Naked
To raise money for Sectionals, the Glee club did a "Men of Glee" Calendar. The six boys in the group will split off the months and show off their chests and abs. Artie, who's in a wheelchair, is uncomfortable taking his shirt off, feeling as if his body is not as buff as the other boys'. Finn, as the substitute Glee teacher, tells Artie it's okay. He doesn't want to make Artie do anything he's uncomfortable with. In the end, Artie does the calendar, and he, along with Sam, keeps their shirt on. Everyone was okay with it.

Season 5, Episode 4: A Katie or a Gaga
To get out of their comfort zones, the Glee club splits into a Katie group and a Gaga group. Those who believe they're more like Gaga must perform a Katie song, and those who believe they are more like Katie must perform a Gaga song. This includes using props and wearing clothes that the pop icons would wear. Marley is uncomfortable dressing like Gaga in a seashell bikini, so she dresses like Katie for their performance. Everyone yells at her for not wearing the bikini, and Mr. Shu suspends her for the rest of the week cause she "put her personal agenda over the team." Everyone agrees with him.

Why is it that when Artie didn't want to take his shirt off, it was okay, but when Marley didn't want to wear a bikini, something that would have been more revealing than no shirt, she's not a team player? It's as if it's women's responsibility to be objectified for the good of others. The writers could have put her into a different Gaga outfit that wasn't as revealing but still fit the assignment. Instead, they set the example that it's okay for a man to feel uncomfortable, but not for a woman.​

Oh, and because Marley is a good girl and not ready for sex, her boyfriend cheats on her. In the same episode. As if to say, if you don't give it up, be prepared to get hurt. Oh, and know, if you do give it up, you will be deemed a slut.

This is just one of the MANY double-standard examples out there. Here's another one of my pet peeves: My Best Friend's Wedding vs. Made of Honor. Both movies are about female/male best friends, where one of the friends is getting married, and the other realizes that they want to be with the other. 

In My Best Friend's Wedding, the male is getting married, and the female decides to do whatever she can to sabotage the wedding and break them up. It doesn't work, and the male gets married.

In Made of Honor, the female is getting married. After a bridesmaid sabotages (cause only females are saboteurs) the bridal shower in the hopes of getting the male fired as maid of honor so she can have it, the male is a responsible maid of honor. As the pre-wedding events progress, the female develops feelings towards the male. Ultimately, she doesn't go through with the wedding, and the two begin a relationship.

So, the female in My Best Friend's Wedding is the bad person, and the male in Made of Honor is the good person. And, of course, a bad girl doesn't get what she wants. I wonder if the story was reversed, and she was good, would she get the guy? 

Sometimes, I wish that female characters were treated the same as male characters. Why can't female characters be strong, intelligent, and ethical without having something taken away from them because of it? And why is it that when they aren't strong, intelligent, and ethical​, they still have something taken away from them? 

​It's a lose-lose situation for female characters.

This week, the administration, or better yet, the regime, showed their true colors when it comes to immigrants. As they have ICE terrorizing the streets, as they suspend refugee programs, as they remove student visas, they welcomed white South Africans with open arms. 

​They're reasoning: They will assimilate better into the US.

Let's think about this. What is it exactly that WHITE South African immigrants have that would let them better assimilate into the US than, say, a Spanish person? Is it the country they're coming from? Is it the situations they are escaping from? Or is it the color of their skin?

​That's one factor. As we know, citizens from countries like Germany and Canada have been targeted at airports and borders. But the overwhelming targets of this regime have been immigrants of color. The racism of this regime is evident to anyone who actually pays attention. 

The other factor is that the Felon's number one campaign donor happens to be a white South African. Proving even more the corruption of this regime to take money for favors. 

Men are being tortured in El Salvador. Children are either being ripped from their parents or abandoned as parents are kidnapped. Citizens are being detained and, in some cases, deported. The cruelty of this regime is unparalleled, and they don't care that courts are telling them to fix it or stop. If you voted for this regime and think this can't happen to you, you'd better wake up fast. They want to get rid of habeas corpus. This won't just affect immigrants. This will affect EVERYONE.

It's only a matter of time before this regime also pushes through policies like denaturalization or reversing acts like the Jones Act that gave Puerto Ricans citizenship. Then, of course, there is segregation, just like in South Africa.

On April 1, the Administration made the decision to withhold funds for Title X family planning programs. This includes Planned Parenthood. Of course, they used diversity, equity, and inclusion as their reason, but it's not fooling anyone. Planned Parenthood has always been on the chopping block for two reasons: 1) they provide safe abortion services, and 2) they provide healthcare services to low-income communities. 

Here's the thing: most conservatives don't know or don't care to know about point number two. All they see is abortion. The fact is, Planned Parenthood provides more than just abortion services; they provide sexual and reproductive healthcare services to patients of all genders, ages, races, sexual orientations, etc. 

By withholding Title X funding, cancer will go undetected, birth control access will be severely reduced, and the STI crisis will worsen. People will suffer.

​Let's further break this down.

These are just four services Planned Parenthood provided that will be affected by the removal of government help. These services, which have nothing to do with abortion, allow low-income patients the care they need at a cost that is affordable to them. But why would that be a good thing?
